Ask Esau If It Was Worth It!

Genesis 27:34  And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

On this incident the writer to the Hebrews found the impressive lesson, that the choices of the past may cast a bitter and irrevocable shadow on all our future.

Heb 12:16  Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

Heb 12:17  For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Beware of the cravings of appetite.

In an evil moment Esau yielded to these, and sold his birthright to secure their gratification...

He found afterward that the Choice made in that hour was Irrevocable.

How needful that we watch and pray, lest we fall into temptation!

There are four facts which, when borne in mind, guard us against the sudden oversetting of passionate appetite.

We were once dead in sins...

Surely we do not want to go back again to the death-house with its corruption.

We died to sin through Christ our Representative.

In Him we have met the demands of God's holy law...

But surely that must be an awful thing which cost our Saviour so dearly.

We died to sin with the Lord Jesus.

We have passed with Him on to Resurrection ground...

So that we belong to the new heavens and new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

We are called on to reckon ourselves dead in sin.

The Nearer we live to God, the more sensitive we shall be to the most distant suggestion of evil...

Closing doors and windows against its entrance...

Reckoning ourselves "not at home" to it...

And yielding our members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

The Masses Demand That Which Will Soothe Them In Their Sins And Amuse Them While They Journey Down The Broad Road!

2Ti 4:1  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

2Ti 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

2Ti 4:3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2Ti 4:4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

That time has arrived!

Church-goers today WILL NOT endure sound doctrine.

Those who...preach the total depravity of man...

Insist upon the imperative necessity of the new birth...

Set forth the inflexible righteousness and holiness of God...

And warn against the eternal and conscious torment awaiting every rejecter of Christ...

Find it almost impossible to obtain a hearing.

Such preachers are regarded as puritanic pessimists, and are Not Wanted.

In these degenerate times,
the masses Demand that which will Soothe them in their sins and Amuse them while they journey down the Broad Road!

The multitude is affected with itching ears which crave novelty and that which is sensational

They have ears which wish to be tickled...

Ears which eagerly drink in the songs of professional and unsaved soloists and choristers...

Ears which are well pleased with the vulgar slang of our modern evangelists!

The things which are now done in so many churches...

The socials...

The fund-raisers...

The bazaars...

The concerts...

The moving picture shows...

And other forms of entertainment...

What are these but Idolatrous Commercialization of these houses of prayer!

No wonder that such places are Devoid of Spirituality and Strangers to the POWER of GOD.

The Lord will NOT Tolerate an Unholy Mixture of Worldly Things with Spiritual.

John 2:13  And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,

John 2:14  And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:

John 2:15  And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

John 2:16  And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.

Who Is Leading?

Jeremiah 10:23  O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

Many people want to direct God, instead of resigning themselves to be directed by Him; to show Him a way, instead of passively following where He leads.

~Madame Guyon~

I said: "Let me walk in the field"; God said: 'Nay, walk in the town"; I said: "There are no flowers there"; He said: "No flowers, but a crown."

I said: "But the sky is black, There is nothing but noise and din"; But He wept as He sent me back, "There is more," He said, "there is sin

I said: "But the air is thick, And fogs are veiling the sun"; He answered: "Yet souls are sick, And souls in the dark undone."
I said: "I shall miss the light, And friends will miss me, they say"; He answered me, "Choose tonight,  If I am to miss you, or they."

 I pleaded for time to be given; He said: "Is it hard to decide?

It will not seem hard in Heaven To have, followed the steps of your Guide.

 I cast one look at the fields, Then set my face to the town; He said: "My child, do you yield? Will you leave the flowers for the crown?"

Then into His hand went mine,  And into my heart came He; And I walk in a light Divine, The path I had feared to see.

An Angel Of Light - Satan

Satan is never more a devil, than when he looks most like an angel.

But let him look and talk as he will...he is Satan still;

And those who are experienced and watchful may discern his cloven foot hanging below his fine garment of light.

Let us beware of him, for many wise have been deceived, and many strong have been cast down by him.

Let us continually apply to Him who is able to keep us from falling, and to present us spotless in the end.

~John Newton~
